A Journey of 6,300 Miles Starts with One Pedal

The inaugural post for one epic journey! This, like the journey itself can end up going off in many different directions but I suppose I should start off by outlining my plan and taking it from there. On Oct. 1st 2013 I will leave behind the east coast haven known as Provincetown and begin pedaling my way out to the well loved west coast town of San Francisco. Since fall will have already begun it's cold and dreary descent up north I plan to head straight down to the southern part of the country via Adventure Cycling's  "The Northern Tier" and bicycle along "The Southern Tier" Once I finish the Southern route I'll take "The Pacific Coast" route up towards San Francisco where I'll finish my journey of around 6,300 miles, and hopefully crash on one lucky friend's couch :-D
These are the routes I have in mind but I'd  like to use them more as guidelines rather than exact routes as an undertaking like this will require an open mind and a sense of adventure. I haven't spent a large amount of time in southern part of the United States so I expect that certain explorative detours and stops will be necessary along the way. If anyone has any recommendations about places to check out let me know!

During the journey I will also be raising money for the Save the Ta Ta's Foundation. This foundation raises money to fund breakthrough breast cancer research primarily by selling clothing and creating a fun atmosphere around their fundraising efforts. I wholly identify with their idea that laughter and positivity are the best cures to fight any disease. To help the cause head on over to the right side of the screen where you'll find a link to my fundraising site. You can also peruse some clothing options provided by Save the Ta Ta's which are sure to bring a smile to your face.

From here on out until the 1st of October stay tuned for posts about my last days in Boston and preparations for the trip. This may or may not include Pedicabbing shenanigans, various trips to bike shops for gear, and some epic pictures that capture what I love about this east coast city. Get Ready!
