Wow.
I'd like to take a moment to talk about a recent festival I was fortunate enough to be able to work and attend; The Michigan Womyn's Festival.
So much more than an average gig for me, this festival provided an outlet to be exactly who I am. I saw womyn from all walks of life, had many inspiring discussions with everyone I met, and learned a hell of a lot about the power we contain as womyn.
From the moment I arrived on the land I could feel that this was a special place for all who were able to be there. This was my first time experiencing something of this nature but right away I was taken in as a fellow sister and was overwhelmed by the amount of support, love, and kindness provided by every single person.
A moment that I felt really captured this feeling was during one of the very first of the festival's activities. While I was working on the Day Stage there was a Round Robin concert featuring many of the week's performers playing together. The final song to be played was the empowering We Shall Overcome where each performer took a verse then came together during the chorus. As the first chords of the song were strum the womyn in the audience sprang to their feet and began locking arms with one another, coming together to form semi-circle chain of womyn surrounding the stage. Throughout the song this band of womyn sang along, cried, and shared a powerful moment that will live on in my heart.
Throughout the festival it was brought to light time and time again of the potential all women have when we band together and of the well of strength we each have within us. It was also because of that special moment during the Round Robin as well as countless others I was reminded of why I will be riding for my cause. To be able to give back to such an incredible community of people who, as both friends and strangers, unabashedly come together to embrace each other in time's of need is an unbelievable opportunity as well as a challenge I will gladly undertake.
To all of my sisters I say thank you, I love and support you, and I look forward to meeting you in the journey's of my life.
This Amazon Warrior will ride again!!
